Definition
The newton (N) is the SI derived unit of force. It is defined as the force required to accelerate a mass of one kilogram at a rate of one metre per second squared. Named after Sir Isaac Newton in recognition of his work on classical mechanics.

- The gravitational force on a 100 g apple is about 1 newton.
